In October 2020, through the RDOF Auction 904, RTC lead by Kirk Lehman (CEO), was awarded 34 Census Block Groups and ~$3.5M in support of the next 10-years. Lyle MacVey, acting COO, lead the RDOF Auction effort and pushed the organization to bid beyond the initial 21 census blocks for up to 74 blocks. Due to the nature of the RDOF Auction, RTC was only able to secure 34 blocks, with many being near the clearing round and some having to bid down near the 10 clock. The balance of blocks cleared below the 10 clock to wireless ISP’s that were authorized at the Gigabit performance tier. It will have to be seen if WiSP technology can achieve the true performance tier that previously only fiber to the home solutions could.
